Four ways to start 2019 with a plan to help your health & wellness business grow. And a content planner freebie too.
Do you remember the movie “Field of Dreams”? The 1989 movie with Kevin Costner is only really memorable for the quote it spawned ... “Build it and they will come”. Come to think of it there was something similar in "Bruce Almighty" too.
Is that what you thought when you started your health & wellness business? Build it and they will come.
I did. Kind of.
Well, I certainly didn’t think it’d take as much marketing to get a steady flow of clients as it turns out it does. And without that steady flow of clients your businesses may well fold.
Taken from the US Labour statistics, around 85% of health and wellness businesses survive their first year. But only 60% make it to year five.
In NZ around 50% of businesses with five or less employees goes under within 6 years. If you’re on your own, 60% fold within 6 years.
So, for health & wellness businesses “Build it and they will come” doesn’t really stack up.
Maybe “Market it and they will come” is a better thing to remember. After all, in 2018 the Global Wellness Institute estimated the wellness industry to be worth around US$4.2 trillion. That’s US$½ trillion growth in 3 years.
The money’s there folks. People are willing to spend money so you can help them achieve their health and wellness goals.
So why aren’t they flooding through my doors?!
When you qualified, how much did you really get taught about marketing or running your business?
I can guess the answer (I got none) … minimal. Certainly nothing that goes beyond a quick formula to stick to and a couple of FB post templates. I see them when my local physical trainers and health coaches advertise. They’ve been given a template and they’re sticking to it. Even though there’re glaring marketing errors there.
Here are a few things to get started with to make sure you get a steady flow of clients in 2019.
1. Get consistent
Put yourself out there. I know we often hate to be sale-sy but how are you going to tell people you can help them if you’re not a visible presence.
Make your number 1 marketing goal of 2019 to have consistent contact with your people. Whether a weekly or fortnightly blog, developing your email list (so you can tell them about your blog and educate them into a client), or posting regularly on social media.
Get. Out. There. Consistently.
2. Be client-focused
Your business is all about your client. What their needs are and how you can meet them. Your job is to decide who your ideal client is and learn all you can about them so you can help them best.
You get to choose who you want to work with, what sparks your passions, who you really love to help.

3. Have a content plan
