Using the actual words that your tribe use helps put the tribe at ease and identify you as one of them. Here's how to do it (and why).
Spending time writing down the actual words that your tribe use, and repeating them when you connect with them will help put the tribe at ease and identify you as one of them.
If you put together your knowledge, passion and ability to be seen as one of them it makes you a much more logical leader of the tribe rather than speaker to a crowd.
How to communicate with your tribe
Communicating with your tribe through a common idea, goal, passion or plan is made easier when you use words that connect with your tribe.
Think about it. If someone uses the same words or phrases to say something as you, it kind of makes you feel more at home. Relaxed. Like they’re ... well … one of your tribe.
I grew up in Scotland. Where I lived there were some words we used to describe things that no one else would say. And each area had their own words. If someone said the same word as you, then you knew they were from the same tribe. (In case you’re wondering one of the words was “barry”, to mean “great”. If you were from Glasgow it would’ve been “gallus”).
Language is so important when connecting with our tribe that I wrote an any-time access online training course all about it. Finding Your Voice contains one whole lesson and workbook devoted to the language your tribe use. This information gives you your SEO keywords, your extra-level of connection with your tribe and all the words to fill your blogs, website and social media posts with.
Now answer me these questions.
How would your tribe greet each other? Would they say “hi”, “hello”, “g’day”?
Now use this, or something along similar lines to start your emails.
How would your tribe say goodbye?
Now use this, or something similar, to sign off your emails.
How would your tribe describe the common idea, goal, passion or plan?
Write down the actual words and phrases they’d use. Not how you'd explain it.
These are your key words! Oh yeah. Easy SEO here we come!
How would your tribe describe the feelings and emotions that come along with their experiences?
Again, write down the actual words.
The final word
Using these words whenever you connect with your tribe shows them that you’re one of them.
Add into that your knowledge, experience, ideas, passions and plans. This is the perfect mix to help you be identified as the leader of the tribe rather than just some well-intentioned practitioner who’s talking to a crowd.
